Biography

Dr. Michael Lewis

Dr. Michael Lewis was born in Montreal but spent most of his early years in Owen Sound, Ontario. He was introduced to vision health at a very young age by his parents, who were both in the practice of ophthalmology. As a teenager he had the opportunity to work alongside his parents in the ophthalmology clinic, as an ophthalmic assistant & visual field technician.

His University education began at the University of Western Ontario where he graduated with an honours bachelor of science degree in genetics, followed by a masters degree in molecular biology. He stayed at Western after graduation where he managed and performed research in a genetic/endocrinology lab dedicated to the study of breast cancer. During this time he enjoyed assisting in teaching undergraduate genetics courses and had the opportunity to publish several journal articles.

He returned to his studies at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and graduated on the dean’s honour list class of 2008. He began his optometry career in Victoria, BC where he was an associate for 2 years before returning to Ontario, to be closer to family.

Dr. Lewis has been practicing full scope optometry in Kingston since January 2010 and is happy to call Kingston his home. He lives in Kingston's west end with his wife and two children. He enjoys playing soccer and golf when he’s not spending time with his family.
