Eyeglasses are removable lenses used to correct vision impairments. Refractive errors can include nearsightedness or myopia (difficulty seeing far away), farsightedness or hyperopia (difficulty seeing close up), and astigmatism (blurring due to an irregularly shaped cornea). Eyeglasses used to treat these errors, function by adding or subtracting focusing power to the eye's cornea and lens.

Are you aware…

that 60% of Canadian children with reading difficulties have undetected and uncorrected vision problems. Children, who cannot see the board, focus on a picture or follow words in a book may struggle to achieve their full learning potential. Children in the kindergarten year may qualify for a free pair of glasses. Check out the Eye See...Eye Learn program to learn more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to wear eyeglasses?

You may need to wear corrective lenses, such as eyeglasses, if you experience difficulty seeing clearly at a distance, up close, or while reading a book. The only way of knowing the type of glasses you may need is by scheduling an eye examination with your Eyecare Kingston eye doctor.

How often should I get a new pair of glasses?

If they no longer support your needs, lifestyle, or taste, you may want to purchase a new pair. But ultimately they should be replaced when your eye doctor recommends it.

Do you offer prescription sunglasses?

Definitely! Most of our sunglasses can be made with prescriptions, transitions, or tinted lenses. Most of our regular prescription glasses can be converted into sunglasses too. Some limitations may apply with progressives and bifocals.
